C-AJJ3324 - DUPLEX TIMING CHAIN KIT

The front plate will have to be countersunk as shown “X” to take the screws CMZ407, which will replace the existing hexagon headed screws, which would foul on the timing chain. Check for clearance on chain all round and align gears as per workshop manual, When using “A” plus timing covers there is a small round pressing at the bottom which needs making flat to allow timing chain clearance.

GEARBOX - How they work

Having decided on or even implemented a course of action to bolster the performance of your Mini’s engine, maximising it’s potential should encompass a good look at the gearbox.

Engine - Reliability

I've been having quite another chuckle lately at some stuff I've seen in print (and heavily and heatedly discussed by internet) on the subject of 1380cc engines and their professed unreliability. Although I know I have been at pains to explain to folk you don't have to have a 1380cc with very sporty cam profile and so on to have a decent, satisfyingly quick road car - but this reliability problem is absolute hogwash.

Properly built and maintained, these engines will last every bit as long and reliably as any other A-series unit. Ask the likes of Swiftune Racing or MED - they've been churning out 1380cc engines for the masses for years with precious few problems. It's the 'properly built' and 'properly maintained' that are the problems. But then these are the same problems that affect any engine's longevity. Those and selecting an engine specification that best suits your usage and temperament as far as maintenance goes.

Ignition - Establishing a TDC reference point

Establishing an accurate TDC reference point is of paramount importance when developing and monitoring ignition timing (and cam timing come to that). Terminology - TDC - Top Dead Centre BTDC - Before Top Dead Centre Establishing an accurate TDC reference point is of paramount importance when developing and monitoring ignition timing (and cam timing come to that). When an experienced engine builder assembles an engine - no matter whether for road or race - he will establish an accurate TDC indicator that can be used for ignition purposes. Usually contrived as a rigid pointer aligning to a corresponding mark on the crank pulley in a position easy to see with the engine installed. Unfortunately, many of us have to deal with engines that haven't had such attention to detail - so either have to make do with the standard ignition timing graduated scale if it's there or sort something else out.

C-AJJ3322 - MINI SPARES FIXED ADJUSTMENT BELT DRIVE KIT

The application of this drive system maintains very accurate and consistent cam and ignition timing, and minimises valve train noise - desirable advantages that do not diminish with time. The fibreglass reinforced belt all but eliminates the excessive stretch suffered by chain driven systems-even when a tensioner is used.

No Longer Available see C-AJJ3328RACE

The ubiquitous toothed belt cam drive system, originally developed for high performance race engines, is now generally accepted as the norm on all state of the art modern engines.

C-AJJ3326 MINI SPARES SLIDE ADJUSTABLE BELT DRIVE KIT

The application of this drive system maintains very accurate and consistent cam and ignition timing, and minimising valve train noise. Desirable advantages that do not diminish with time. The fiberglass reinforced belt eliminates the excessive stretch suffered by chain driven systems - even where a tensioner is used. The protracted control of cam and ignition timing maintains peak performance. Chain drives cause excessive timing scatter, even after relatively short periods of running. The MINI SPARES kit enables A-series owners to benefit from such technology. The adjustable cam gear in this kit allows up to 9 degrees of adjustment, facilitating accurate cam timing. An absolute must when installing a performance camshaft.

FITMENT: Remove the original timing cover. Position gears so that the timing marks on cam and crank gears are adjacent, then remove gears/chain assembly. Remove locating keys. Clean cam and crank gear boss surfaces, ensuring new gears are no more than a l

Silverstone Classic Mini Touring - 08.05.10

From the beautiful setting and interesting and testing/demanding track that is Cadwell Park to the stark, tedious double drag strip, chain-link fenced edifice that is 'Stalag Silverstone'. Most definitely not a Mini-friendly circuit. The track is not very entertaining at all. Mostly two longish stretched of flat-out with two stops – one a hair pin (Becketts) and one a 'hurry up and wait' series of very, very slow corners that you have to literally trundle round.

Historical Article - October 1993 - Mincomp Musings

Mincomp Musings A couple of months ago, I found myself needing to replace one of the power units for the Mincomp Mini, and in doing so I would be having the opportunity to test some new or updated products. Thus I will be devoting a couple of issues to reviewing some of the parts.

Historical Article-August 1994-Steady Eddy

Steady Eddy My first visit to Mini Spares must have been over 12 years ago and while buying the usual go faster bits, I enquired about a Saturday job. A very lean and handsome Keith Calver could only offer me full time employment. I declined and subsequently have spent a small fortune over the years and drunk far too many pints of beer with K.C.
